Since I've explained all the benefits that NLP has been giving to me lately, I've decided to dig even more into details, to give an example of the techniques I love the most. One of them is anchoring.
Basically, anchoring is a simple but powerful technique used when you want to reach a desired state. For example, if you are under a lot of stress, wouldn't it be nice to have a tool which would help you feel serene.
Here are the steps, based on the example.
1. Find a quiet place where you won't be disturbed. Also, ensure that you have enough time to relax and recall desired memories.
2. Recall the situation from the past when you've felt completely peaceful and content, and which you would like to use in any other time in the future.
3. Choose an anchor that is adequate for you in any situation when you might need the feeling of peacefullness. It can be any place on your body, but it's advisable that you make it discreet and easily portable.
4. Now think of a situation when you felt the most peaceful. Take your time. See what you've seen, hear what you've heard, feel and smell the situation... What are the colours, are there people involved or is it just you... Just feel it. It's only important that you are associated; that you see the situation through your own eyes. Feel all the emotions you felt.
5. Now, if need be, intensify that emotion you are just feeling. Make it bigger, brighter, louder...
6. When you feel your memory is reaching a vivid climax - release your anchor. Find that movement which will cause this brilliant memory come to reality.
7. Open your eyes and think of something else, to get out of the state. Fire the anchor again to see if it brings back that memory again. Repeat this for several times, each time intensifying the memory. And then fire your anchor again. What's it like?
8. Now, there's one thing I would like you to do. Go forth into the future, in a situation for which you know that will bring you stress. Feel the situation - what is it that's causing you stress? Now fire the anchor and notice the difference. Are you flown by a splendid feeling your anchor is giving you right now? Excellent. How do you feel about this situation now, when you know you have an anchor?
9. Re-test it the next day. Now you have a permanent anchor which you can use in real-life situations. Enjoy making new anchors!
There are also collapsing anchors and stacking and chaining anchors, but that's another story.
QUESTION FOR ALL: would you like me to continue writing about my NLP experiences? Please answer.
